I live in Broken Hill, NSW and have been "researching" the CNC
stuff for about 1 1/2 years now and have built a router and a
lathe. (I will get around to posting the pics oneday). The
majority of the parts you will have to get from the good 'ol US of A
as there seems to be an abundance of companies that upgrade or go
out of business and sell off their parts to EBayers.
Try Minibearings in Brisbane for leadscrews as they are importers
for SDP/SI parts and can be found here..
http://www.minibearings.com.au/default.html
I have'nt bought anything from them yet but their quotes seem pretty
comparable to other sites and you won't have to pay for import duty
(that can be a killer as I found out) Anything over about $150 you
will have to pay duty on and they look at all the stuff you import
over a 6 month period and tote that up as well.
Stops you from buying 1 part today and another in 3 days time etc.
to try and beat the Tax man. Take a tip and buy all your motion
screws brand new as you don't know the quality of the secondhand
stuff. Some I have purchased are near new condition though and a
real bargain but if you haven't much money then spend it on what you
know is the best option and that is NEW! You will save in the long
run, believe me!
I love visiting the McMaster Carr site as their stuff is very cheap
and their service is next to none and best of all they have up-to-
date prices on everything and an extremely easy to navigate site
with descriptions of all their products. Their 5/8 ballscrews are
about the same price as the acme screws and the ballnuts are a bit
cheaper than their counterparts.
Anyway, I won't take up too much time here so if you want to get in
contact with me then mail me off list and I will try and let you
know what I'm up to.
All the info you will need is right here on this list but it will
take you months to read through it all as I did (well, the first 3/4
anyway) but you won't find a wealth like this anywhere else but they
don't seem to give out much info on Servo drives/amplifiers, much
the pity.
regards
Richard.
