Acu-rite DRO repair

The DRO on the ol' J-head lost its x-axis on Sunday. I called
acu-rite. I assumed it was the IR LED in the reader. Betty at Acu-rite
had me exchange the cables to see it it was the "box" or the "reader".
It turned out to be the "box" Betty said, "It is probably the zener
diode there by the brace. It should be passing 10v" It was passing
6.8v. We changed it out for a new 10v 1w zener diode and it works.
This is evidently a comon problem with acu-rite 2 DRO. I share this
tale with you all in case anyone runs into the same problem...It's the
zener diode
