My question whether the kernel optimizations for Pentium make any difference?
I have stayed with the 386 for compatibility, but I now only have K6-2's (
i retired my 486!!) SO I guess I could recompile with a Pentium option.
On the OS side I feel there would be improvements due to new instructions for
handling longer data types and , But I did not think that floating point or
other simpler instructions were enhanced. Perhaps better pipelining? Any ideas
or benchmarks avaliable? If not, I'll try it and report if I find a difference!!
