3d blues....

I may sound like a doofus, but after giving it a try with both Autocad and a
trial copy of Mechanical Desktop, I cannot seem to load 3d solid dxf's or
dwg 3d files into VisualMill or other CAM programs. They just "fail to
load". What could I be missing? THanks for any input. IT now sems as
though getting up to speed with 3d is way tougher than building a CNC
machine from scratch. My finished machine just sits there waiting to go to
work :-(
