KAOS drive

There is an interesting article in the March 6, design news. It is a
two axis linear drive, but the actual "motors" only move in one axis.
There is a "V" type arrangement that causes movement in the
perpendicular axis if the speed of the two drives is different. The
theory is that the two "motors" read from the same feedback device
resulting in high accuracy, also the mass of the perpendicular axis
platform can be very low, thus higher speeds.
It is called a KAOS linear servo stage. They claim 4g acceleration
and speeds up to 5 m/s (that's Meters!!) Maybe out of the range for
home shop right now, but who knows? Company is Bell-Everman Inc. if
someone can find more info.
Peace
