Automatic probing

I have been reading the archives and learning about the difficulty of
creating an efficient automatic probing routien. What I am wondering
is if anybody has found any software that will work and probe a part
automatically. I plan to make the probe myself, but I need to find
software that works too. I read about the maxnc software, is that
available seperately from the probe?
