Retail hardware

Having worked in the hardware dept. of HQ (when I was younger) I
had to laugh at Jon's experience at the local hardware store with his
search for the quick change router chuck.
A good rule of thumb is to never trust anything that any employee of
any retail store ever tells you. Especially over the phone. If it
turns out to be true you will be pleasantly surprised, if not you won't
be too dissapointed.
They don't do it on purpose, they just usually don't know or don't
care.
Good old hardware stores are an endangered species. I usually give
my local store my buisiness when I can even though I have to pay more.
The little guys just can't compete with the buying power of the Home
Depot's and the Lowe's. 10 years and you will really have to look to
find one, if at all.
Sorry, off topic.

P.S.
When I worked at Vermont American (Early 90's) I tried to get them
to invest some design time to come up with a quick change router system
to sell to Sears. I was going to base it on a CAT 40 style. They
flatly refused.
Don't get me started!!
