Keith, A good option would be to upgrade to DeskCNC. It includes
both a windows controller (serial port to step and direction level
controller board) and CAM for $350. Most any old Windows PC will run
it just fine.

The CAM includes DXF pocketing, contouring and drilling, .STL 3D
machining, raster to vector tracing and height field, and text
engraving. There are basic tutorials in the manual.
