Computer speed question.

I'm somewhat new here but have been working on a conversion mill for
a couple of years. I have 90% of the mechanicals done and have been
taking quick glances at the options for software - which has
advanced respectably in those couple of years. This is a servo motor
(with encoders) system using the Gecko 320's on an Enco floor knee
mill.

I have attempted to add to a couple of the answers here, feeling
that I should contribute because I am just about at the point that I
will need much help with this. I don't mind paying for good software
for this machine but am wondering if I should have checked the
software out before buying a PC. I purchased a 1Ghz Book PC - is
that overkill and will it even do what is required? Is CPU speed an
advantage or a detriment?
