Is the early model Shoptask really suitable for CNC conversion?

I have a little experience in home foundry and machining and am
retired from aerospace systems engineering. As a hobby I want
to build some small engines.
I have a Shoptask I bought new in 1993/4 and am thinking about
adding CNC to it. My machine is not worn as it has had little use.
However, I have heard FROM WHAT I BELIEVE IS A RELIABLE SOURCE that
Shoptask ways are only within .001 and wonder anyone is having
success in running these machines via CNC.
I would like to be able to build some some SMALL engines that need
better accuracy on jobs like cylinder bores etc. Also I have heard
that the milling head may NOT be solid enough to bore and drill with
good enough precision for engine building.
Has anyone in this group had experience with WHITE Shoptask machines
with respect to adding CNC?
And would that person respond to my concerns via this forum?
