If half the motor phases are named Aa, Ba, where Aa and Ba share a
common connection to the power supply, then if Aa and Ba are ever on at
the same time, you need a separate resistor on each winding.

What is the resistance per phase? The auction says the maximum current
is 2 amps, which sounds high to me for 80 oz in motors.

The formula to calculate the resistor value is:

power_supply - motor_voltage
-------------------------------------------
motor_current

Using your example:

12 - 6
--------- = 3 ohms
2

Again, that sounds like to much current for this size motor.

It is possible to get better performance by using a higher power supply
voltage, and larger resistors, or a chopper current source.

JJ
