You might be able to stop by some the local sheet metal houses and
ask for a tour. Depending on how busy they are, they may laugh or
actually let you in the shop.

Since I'm also in the HVAC field, I am in sheet metal shops looking
at blueprints for projects, so have friends who will walk me thru the
shop now and then.

All the shops I have seen have air, and most have water, so the
combination is popular. Also all the shops I have been in have
cardboard on the table to force the air thru the smaller openings.

As you will quickly learn, polution contorls work better on higher
concentrations of gunk, and are more expensive when movning higher
volumes of air.

Each State has laws concerning what you can discharge, and at what
levels.

One thing you could do, is to create a scrubber. a PVC stack, inside
the shop that the fan blows air into. The unit would be filled with
some sort of material that would be like the open weave plastic
potato bags. then just pump water over that and as air passes up,
and water passes down, it scrubs the air. Then you could pass that
over the parts so it was recirculating the air inside the shop. This
would keep total emmissison down and let you capture most of the
junk. This method would work better if you discharged between 10 and
50% of the air so that it was always bringing in some new air from
the shop.

There are electronic air filters that would work also. If you get a
chance to visit some shops, ask that question.
