If I were to hazard a guess, 1KW would be good for a mill, but
1.5KW would be better if you are considering a router (the reason
being driving 2 axes hard is more common on a router, whereas on a
mill (even in 3D machining) usually only 1 axis is driven hard).
Keep in mind, the peak power which can be delivered is much much
higher for 2 reasons:
- a large capacitor stores lots of power
- certain transformers (including my toroids) have a surge capability
of 150+% for several minutes (to keep the draining cap charged).
