The larger machine may be more difficult to convert to CNC. It has a
z axis rack and pinion drive that you will want to convert to a
leadscrew drive. The table is more of a bridgeport design, being
rather long in the x direction, and short in the Y direction. It can
be fitted with DRO's rather successfully. The motor is heavier, and
uses R8 tooling.
The micro mill has a smaller motor, a z axis feedscrew, and a deeper
(y direction) but narrower (x direction) table. It uses MT2 tooling.
If you want to use the micro-mill, see if they will sell it for
149.00, since that was a sidewalk sale price this summer. They may be
closing it out in the stores. Parts may be available at
www.littlemachineshop.com.
I'll be doing that somewhat later this year.
