Hi again,
While I do write a few words, I may as well include a few thoughts.
ISA bus:
There has been a lot of words said about the bus to use. IMO I think ISA is
good enough for now. It is easy to make boards, and easy to make software.
Some like the idea of using USB, etc. Well, there is so many problems with
it, not only speed and dedicated controllers, but in a realtime systems it is
difficult to write the software. This is not only because of the nature of a
realtime system, but also because of all the problems involved with a
distributed system. There is <no> good solutions in this context, and I
think it is funny that no one has addressed these problems.
The industry is working with new types of interconnections, like Infiniband.
The industry <will> probably drop USB, firewire, and PCI !! bus arcitechtures.
If you want to check out more, you may find something at:
www. futureio.org and www.ngioforum.org
IMO - a lot of the major shortcomings for systems of the kind we are talking
about, - have some real limits in the same areas these forums try to solve.
