Almost all stepper motors are 2-phase. The makers of these motors
and drivers don't bother to specify that.

But, a few makers have made motors that are different. 3-phase and
5-phase have been used. For 5-phase, Berger-Lahr owns the original
patents, and Oriental Motor, Inc., under their Vexta brand name, make
5-phase stepper motors and drivers. (They also make 2-phase for
users who want that.)

If you don't see Oriental Motor or Vexta, you are almost guaranteed
to have a 2-phase motor.
