Spindle Motor and Control for CNC ROuter

Hi Folks -
As I'm in the thick of the mechanical design of a CNC router project,
I need to select my spindle drive. I'd like to use a spindle motor
(like a Columbo, 5 hp)for the benefits I know of (I think higher
spindle speeds and they can be quieter than standard router motors),
but that's about my level of familiarity with them. My controls will
be 3 Gecko G320 drivers for 3 Polyscientific (now Moog) DC brush
servo motors, interfaced to the PC with Mach 2 software (all pretty
industry standard and proven equipment). I would be quite pleased to
be able to control spindle on/off, RPM and rotation direction via the
PC but I'm not sure what Mach 2 is capable of (haven't bought it yet)
or what kind of controls/driver I'll need to make the Mach 2 talk to
the spindle motor. Anybody been through this mine field of choices
that can shed a little light on my choices and upside/downsides?
Thanks all -
Scott
