Yep,
I'd agree, sounds similar to a Pacific Scientific Brushless Servo
motor I just got:
3 wires(motor):
3 phases, (A,B and C)
5 wires(Phasing sensors):
Sensor A,B and C
Sensor Common
+5VDC
Shield
9 wires(Encoder)
Ch A,A/,B,B/,Z,Z/,+5VDC,supply return and shield
