Hi Eric,
Yes I have converted my 7x12 to CNC along with extending it to a 7x24. The
CNC conversion works well, I used belt reduction to a 147 oz/in motor for
the cross slide (X axis) and a 2:1 belt reduction to a 187 oz/in motor for
the lead screw (Z axis). If you go to

John's 7x24 Stretch there are some photos of the Z axis drive , the X axis
drive and the new enclosure I made to control the flying swarf. I used this
complete setup to demonstrate CNC lathe operation at Cabin Fever in January,
had a crowd both days, all day. I was turning 12L14 steel for finned
cylinders for an engine I just started building. The CNC thing works well,
I have some minor changes to the design which I will start implementing
today. I will post new pictures when it is complete along with some items
made using CNC on the lathe.
