It seems to me that most of the glass scales are 20 micron with quadrature
down to 5 micron and the cheap ones are 40/10 micron.
5 micron takes 1270 lines per inch. After that they start playing with
analog voltages(, and generally fooling themselves?)

Just remember you can't make a jig bore out of a knee mill with a dro. 1
micron is really pushing the envelope.
