Hi Mike,
You should be able to "share" step/dir signals to identical drivers and
steppers, no problem. I'd energize the steppers with one coupler loose,
to "sync" them while at the home position.
One of the first CNC websites I saw for routers SELLS setups like this,
referred to as an XXYZ controller, as I recall. Talk to Dennis at
Supertech:
