DRO software

I have been trying to get a software dro to work that I downloaded
from Art Eckstein's web page http://ns1.dicomm.net/~axtein/dro/
It works until I try to turn on backlash compensation then I don't
get any numbers on the screen.
I also noticed that when I try to type in a value for the amount of
backlash it reverts back to 0.00000. I even tryed to edit the config
file manually to change this value but as soon as the program runs it
changes the config file back, so I think it has something to do with
the load/save routine but I'm not a C programmer so I can't figure
out what's wrong with the code..
If anyone can help with this code, or knows of another cheap program
that can do this let me know.
