It's not Yahoo, specifically. Almost all email software breaks lines at
some arbitrary length. it used to be 72 characters, but now it seems
that every system has a different length setting for when it breaks the
lines.
If your text seems to come out one long line, one short (repeat) the
short lines are what was broken off the longer ones. it makes the break
before the first word that exceeds the length limit.

When your email is quoted a few iterations deep in somebody else's
reply, it gets really messed up, because the quoted lines have something
like "> " added to them to mark the quoted part. This makes the line
longer,
hitting the length limit again, causing another word or two to get bumped to
the next line.
