pneumatic actuating has here the big disadvantage, that there is nearly no
speed control possible. speed depends on load over the stroke of the
cylinder.
you can add a hydraulic speed control, that is used on lathes for accurate
sliding control.
i would keep my idea open to electro spindel operation.
