I ,too, have used them for a few years in automation systems.
Mostly in pick and place and indexing type apps. Not in machining
apps, yet. I love the package, controller and drive all in the motor.
I've used the DeviceNet interface which was pretty cool but most of
our apps have been where the internal plc watches bits and then
goes to the predetermined location. The company has been good to
work with but........you knew there had to be one of those...
I have had roughly a 50% infant mortality rate with them. In all
cases the drive mosfets have gone shorted. We've used the recommended
surge protection to absorb the braking voltage but we still have
to send one of every two back for repair. They are coverd by a two
year warranty and that's great, but wish I didn't have to use it so
often.
Don't let that discourage you, I've been faithful to them and would
like to try the CAM they were talking about.
Thanks,
Gary Shelton
