It depends on the capabilities of the signal source and the drivers
that you want to double up.

In the Case of the DeskCNC controller card, it will drive two of our
SV-500 Servo driver cards from one axis, but it is not recommended
for two Geckos.

Using a slaved axis configuration will allow for situations in which
you need to have dual motors on an X axis of a gantry router. With
the slaved axis configuration, two axis channels are assigned their
individual drivers and motors (X and A for instance), but are kept in
synch by the controller.

Manufacturers usually warn against connecting two motors to the same
driver.
