I have run down the link below and spoken to a nice man on the phone regarding prices and resolution.

The strip is sold at about £200 per meter depending on resolution. This can go all the way down to 0.000001 count the zero's. it is not effected by normal dirt but doesn't like cutting oil or swarf.

Encoder heads are dependent on resolution again and are priced at about £370. They have quadrature output in either TTL logic 5volt or analogue signals. Order the right one for the DRO you plugging them into.

For the Ex. Colonials across the pond $1.66 is £1.00. 1777 was a bad year!

I have no idea how the Bendix scale works but the Renishaw scale and a
little encoder history is described on
