It's pretty simple, actually. Let's say you want to cut 8TPI at 200 RPM.
Your tool needs to move 1/8" for each revolution of the spindle. Therefore,
the math for the feed rate is .125"/rev x 200Rev/Minute = 25"/Minute or
25IPM.
Note that you would almost certainly want to program your machine to do a
feed rate/revolution, and use a spindle sensor for coordinating the
movements of the work and the tool, but this calculation will let you know
what the necessary speeds of the tool in IPM are, based on TPI and spindle
RPM.

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Does anyone know the mat behind creating
threading on CNC
I'm curious to calculate the speeds I would need to do threading on
my Sherline mill. In order to do this I am in search for the math
to calculate thread size against spindle RPM and the feed rate
needed. Can anyone explain the relationship in such a way as it
could be used to calculate the feed rates? e.g., a given thread and
spindle RPM would require 'x' feed rate.
Thanks,
Ken
