The only reason to use a G340 instead of a 320 is if the
encoder/drive/leadscrew
system will require more step pulses per second, at the desired maximum
speed,
than your software-generated step-pulse CNC program can produce.

In that case, using the G340 will allow you to get 2x, 5x, or 10x
greater speed,
but at a corresponding drop in resolution. The higher the encoder
resolution,
the more of a problem this becomes. On the other hand, higher encoder
resolution (without step-rate multipliers) can give smoother motion.
