EMC PID settings

I am having problems with following errors in EMC occasionally.
At .5 to 1 inch per minute it doesnt seem to be any problem. At 5
or 10 ipm I start getting following errors. Especially when entering
curves.

I currently have P set to about 20 on both axes and Acceleration set
to 5.0. Is there a better combo ? Should I throw some I and D in
there ? Which variable in the .ini file controls the amount of
following error the system will tolerate ?

I am using freqmod (with stepper motors) should I just "fix" it by
using steppermod ?
