Aaron,

Does the Dir LED change when the dir changes?
Monitor the voltage on the Dir terminal to see if the signal is a good 5v
and gnd as you toggle the dir with the arrow keys .

Check the encoder wiring and connections very carefully. Make sure they
are not running close to the motor or power wires.
Let me know. I will be out of town the rest of today but will check my email
this evening.
