EMC .. which BDI, and what about remote control ?

A couple of (long winded) questions ..
1. My current version of EMC (the one running in the shop) is based on
RedHat 5.2, and it's maybe time to have a look at something newer.
<G>
(Although I must say, that old compile-it-yourself version has stood
me in good stead)
So, I've been playing with the newest BDI versions in my computer
room. Both seem to run fine, both install to a local hard drive
fine, neither will boot after install (a LILO or GRUB tweek fixes it
though).
So my first question is ..
what's different (in terms of EMC) between the two BDI versions ?
2. The Redhat version includes Tk/Tcl for Windows, and it was pretty
cool to have a windows machine (seem to) control the RedHat EMC
machine over the network.
I never could get the same Remote option running with the Debian
machine, though, so question 2 is ..
is it possible to run the Windows remote control on the Debian version
of the BDI ?
3. Remote control is particularly attractive to me, as I can then
have a quite powerful (headless) desktop stuffed in a corner
controlled by a small, not particularly powerful notebook. In the
CRAMPED confines of my TINY little shop, this is a big deal ..
there's just no room for a glass tube (and no money for an external
LCD).
Is there some reason why
a. VNC won't work as a remote control solution, or
b. EMC can't be run remotely via XWindows ?
Thanks for any help or thoughts.
