New release (v4.00)

on 2004-08-27 19:51:59 UTC
Folks:

We've finally released the new version as of this morning. Lots of
new features, most notably the sweeping interface changes, parametric
programming, and re-organized source code.

http://www.dakeng.com/turbo.html

There are two downloads, the full one (with docs), and the software
only. For you veterans that already know the program I'd suggest
getting the software only, since it's shorter to download by far (less
load on the server). The internal help system will be enough to get
you rolling.

One of the things that we've upgraded in the new rev is the price.
Hated to do it, but we have three guys now on the team and the
consensus has been among the users that we've been way underpriced for
a while.

For a few days (through Aug 31), the cost to register will still be
$20. This gives all the wiggle-wagglers who were waiting until the
new release time to get on board. After that, it'll be $60 for
everybody. The distribution is still the same - fully functional, pay
on the honor system.

I'll be sending the message with the source download to the
registered users in segments as part of their promised upgrade over
the next few days, but if you just can't wait then email me at
"admin@...". There's too many to email all at a whack.

If you're upgrading (probably everyone on this listserv is in that
category), then do this:

- Unzip v4 to some new directory.
- Copy the turbocnc.ini file from the old rev to the new one
- Start TurboCNC, and use Configuration - Save configuration. This
rebuilds the ini with some extra stuff for the new rev.

Lastly, I'd like to personally thank Jerry, Tony, and the 60 odd
folks on the beta testing group for their amazing dedication in
getting this program ironed out.

Yours,
Dave Kowalczyk
(dkowalcz@...)

A couple of other things concerning TurboCNC Rel-4

1. It is a DPMI protected mode program. This means that it is not restricted
to running in the lower 1 Mbyte of memory. What this means to you is that
this version can serve as the base for adding Radius Compensation and CVC.

2. Because it is a DPMI protected mode program, you will have to use either
Borland Pascal Version 7.0 or Borland Delphi, version 1 to compile it. If
you choose to use Delphi, you will have to rebuild the run time libraries.
The instructions for doing this are in the files area of the Yahoo TurboCNC
list (groups.yahoo.com/group/turbocnc/files)
