Has anyone put ball screws on a 9x20 lathe?
Here is my thinking, please correct if this is wrong:
conventional screws are much less efficient/more friction than ball screws
less chance of lost steps with stepper motor drive with less friction
zero or low backlash would be a plus as well.
load will mostly be cross slide friction and bed friction, will be using the
lathe for light grinding.
Any guess how big a stepper motor I should use? Since rapid movement will
not be necessary, the finest pitch screw would be OK.
Thanks to all the brave experimenters!
