has anyone here been able to convert a regular 6" 8" rotary table to
cnc? I dont have a rotary table so I dont know if it's possible to get
all or at least most of the backlash out. Im thinking about purchasing
one but would like to see if you can do it before I spend the money.

I once built a circuit to drive a stepper from a PC, the whole "set"
connected to a Bridgeport mill's computer, making the 4th axis. The user-shop
attached the stepper I provided to their 10 or 12" rotary table. I don't recall
any discussion about backlash. I THINK there was no concern about this, as
the accessory was always used rotating in ONE direction. Simple, really.
