I don't know about 5-6 axes, but 3 and 4 axis robots come up on eBay all the
time. You can look up some of the sellers and see that they have quite an
inventory of these machines. Stay AWAY from hydraulic arms, you really
DON'T
want that much trouble. You might find a 4-axis arm in good condition
missing
all the controls for $2000. Possibly you could find one with 5 or 6,
but that would
take a little luck. Holding a plasma or welding torch should be no
problem, with
the possible exception of the EMI/RFI disturbing the electronics. Some
careful
attention to shielding should make it work. Then you'll have to come up
with
suitable servo amps and a PC with a control program. That may be tougher.
