Not much on the belt but depending how tight its ran will depend on how much loss is observed. Side load on bearings will create friction. Depends on bearing type, how much available lubrication, etc. Removing the slack from the belt is adequate. Over-tightening it to a set pre-load is unneccesary and could damage the bearings in the motor or machine over time.
