I would HIGHLY recomend you find Mariss's Mystery Motors
post. I think there is a copy on the list of links on the home page
of this site.

For example, a round body NEMA23 single stack motor is
ABOUT 5 watts. Measure the resistance and you get the first
part of the answer.

Watts = Volts times Amps.
Volts = amps times resistance.

Since you would know resistance, you can start to work out the
answer in a very safe and practicle way.

If the motor is less than a NEMA23, it is not worth the effort as
you can buy a known rated motor NEMA23 for under $20.00
