I am another satisfied customer of Futurlec. Shipping is very fast
considering that the merchandise comes from Asia.

The Atmel 2313 board: http://www.futurlec.com/ATDevBoard.shtml
is a very low cost programmable device. Very easy to program in a
version of Basic, and does not require a ton of other equipment to
work with. A 2x16 LCD display to fit is only $11.90 WITH CABLE ready
to plug in ! They have all kinds of interfaces and accessories for
it.

link to an outfit that has the cheapest prices I've seen. I've no
connection to them other than happy customer. They may not have
everything, but if they got it, the single+/quantity pricing is great.
