You still need a special thread cutting setup. There is no other way
to coordinate the horizontal motion of the cutter with the rotational
motion of the work. Sherline and I are working on an electronic
interface for the CNC drive that will do this, but God only knows
when it will be ready. The idea is to keep the hand crank on the
headstock but monitor the rotation with a shaft encoder and drive the
CNC leadscrew according to your specifications.
