John:
I have a "Smithy" 1220XL and I have slowsync 100oz. steppers on the x-y
feeds running at two to one ratio. I sometimes wish I had used 4:1 so that
slower feed rates would not be so jerky. I have a very good 40 Volt DC power
supply. The motors I paid $10.00 each and $20.00 for the power supply, at
our local salvage shop. I also installed Rockford ball screws on the long
feed and have the cross feed shaft machined, but not installed yet. 100 oz.
motors seem to have enough power, but if you can get 150-200 oz. at a good
price I think I would use them. Hop this helps
