A set of Gecko 320's will go for more than $125 each.

spending that much on a motor and encoder puts each axis over $250.00

What size unit are you looking into ? a Sherline ? a Bridgeport ?

I think Fred hits the nail on the head for Sherlines. (correct me if
I'm wrong here) his drivers and motors package is designed for that
type of machine.

A 3/4 hp treadmill motor and encoder and a lot of work on your part
to get them mated can cost you under $75 an axis. Those motors are
not small, at around 4" dia and 10" long.

a couple motors under $50.00

Surplus Center

$13.00 encoder with a POC motor to throw away.

Add a $30 motor

1573&catname=electric

and you got a motor/axis for $50.00 each.

Watch out for Surplus Center. Not all motors have ball bearings.
Pass on any that do not.
