There is a gap in the market.
Unfortunately with what you say you need size wise the SimplyCNC machine doesn't fit the bill.
Table travels on this are 6 - 1/2" x 16" with 11" of daylight but only 3" of this under CNC control.
For some reason they decided to power the 80mm stroke quill instead of the vertical head which
would have given them 280mm of movement.
Cost wise the Bridgeport does come off well and has the movement you need but as you have
said they are lumpy brutes. There was a Series 1 on ebay a couple of weeks ago with dead
controller for 280 UKP.
The mill that SimplyCNC sell is sourced from ArcEuroTrade in Leicester.
Dick Stevens has just done a CNC conversion article on this model in recent Model Engineers
Workshops mags.
