This will probably bring on a firestorm but why take the motor apart ?
First turn off the breaker for the lathe ( you will always reach for
the on lever out of habit )
Then clamp the motor in a 4 jaw get it aligned
Hook it to a power supply
Put a tool post grinder in the lathe .
Power up the motor ( slow RPM ) to be ground and go to it
I usually put a small piece of round paper on the shaft near the body of
the motor to keep out grit .
The concentricity is fantastic .
It works well on steppers to.
I have done this several times with no problems ..
