How about 80VDC? Thats what and opto-isolator is designed to isolate
against. A buffer will help if the drive current (from, say, a laptop) is
weak. I haven't heard of any need for a bidirectional buffer.
I've built four driver/PS boxes, and haven't found the need for a breakout
board. My Geckos have opto-isolation already.
