Actually, this would have been my preference, as the ribbon cables are
easier to use.

The pin spacing of the removable connector does have connectors that
use the insulation displacement type of connector, so people can make
them at home. and those are the cheapest of all the connectors.
often less than the screw terminal type.

Premade ribbon cable would be really expensive in comparison.
