In general, electronic drivers or amplifiers have a very low impedance
compared to what they are supposed to drive(motors, in this case). The
consequence of attempting to parallel drivers or amps which are not
specifically designed fro this use can be that any small voltage difference
on the outputs causes one to drive the other, instead of driving the load.
This can burn up the driver/amplifier.

similar stepper drives' outputs are connected in parallel. Would it deliver
higher current to the motor?
