Hi George;

Regular R8 spindles make use of a draw bar pulling directly on the
collet threads. I do not know of any R8 systems that work differently
than this though they certainly could. This wouldn't perhaps be a CNC
taper of some sort.

As to Bridgeports themselves there are at least a few companies making
parts for these mill and apparently doing a bang up business.
