Hi, not sure there are any downfalls except the more steps the faster your
computer program will have to supply pulses. one way around that is with a
quickstep pacer and or made by others, to get higher step rates on a slower
computer.
if the motors have the same holding torque probably not much difference. as
for micro stepping, is a good thing, take a 180 step motor, and at 1/2 there
will be 360 steps per rev. very handy for things like indexers..i am using
Hobbycnc micro step drives, have 1/2 1/4 1/8 and 1/16 micro stepping runs
much smoother than the old drive and motors perform better. with a k6-2-500
for a computer driving 24,000 steps per inch at 30 ipm the computer is
beginning to run out of gas running 3 axis at once. 3:1 on the belt and 10
pitch screw for x and y. the drives running 1/4 microstep..on the old
ballast resistor drive 7.5 ipm was the best i could do reliably. i still
have not tuned for the most from the motors being a change in size comming
up. cul brian f.
