The September issue of Circuit Cellar magazine arrived today and an IC that
may be interesting was featured in the New Products section.
It is a 12-bit non-contact Magnetic Rotary Encoder IC (AS5045) from Austrian
Microsystems. $5 in 1K quantitys. Serial and analog outputs. The output would
have to be processed to give quadrature signals from the digital serial
signals.
They seem to have 10-bit (AS5043 - 1024/rotation) versions in current
production.
There doesn't appear to be a data sheet on the WEB page fot the new chips, but
the 10-bit units sample position 10K times/sec.

I have no connection with this vendor.
